Houzlook.com / PexelsPlanning a new modular kitchen, or redoing an old one? Every modular kitchen needs 9 basic accessories: tandem box drawers, soft-close drawer channels, a cutlery tray, a thali basket, a bottle pull-out, a pull-out dustbin, a dish rack (GTPT), soft-close hinges and cabinet handles. For a medium L-shaped kitchen, these basics cost about ₹31,000 with value brands or ₹51,000 with Hettich/Hafele (hardware only). A pantry unit, magic corner and 7 smaller add-ons take a medium L-shaped kitchen to about ₹71,000 to ₹1,07,000. The full list of 25, with prices, is below.
Modular kitchen accessories list with price (all 25 at a glance)
Prices are for the hardware only. They do not include the cabinet, the shutter or fitting charges. “Must-have” means almost every kitchen uses it. “Recommended” means most kitchens benefit. “Nice to have” depends on your space and budget.

How much will your kitchen’s accessories cost?
Pick your layout, size and budget. The planner counts how many of each item a typical kitchen of that size uses and adds up the cost. It is a starting estimate, not a quote. Your carpenter’s drawing decides the final count.

Drawers and base cabinet accessories (items 1–8)
The cabinets under your counter do most of the work. Plan these first, because they decide how many drawers and baskets you buy.

Tandem box drawer
A ready-made drawer with metal sides and soft-close runners. Only the base and front are wood. It uses the full width of the cabinet and suits plates, bowls, spices and pots. Choose a high side for pots and a low side for spices.

Soft-close telescopic channel
The ball-bearing runner that slides a basket or wooden drawer out fully and closes it gently. Every basket needs one pair. Soft-close stops slamming. Normal-close channels start at ₹175 but bang shut.

Undermount (Quadro) channel
A channel that hides under the drawer, so you see only wood when the drawer is open. Worth it for open-front drawers or a premium look. A side channel does the same job for less.

Heavy-duty slides (100 kg)
For a wide drawer that holds a pressure cooker, kadhai and the big steel dabbas. A normal channel bends under that weight over time. Use one wide heavy-duty drawer at the bottom of the hob cabinet.

Cutlery tray
A divided tray for spoons, knives and ladles in the top drawer. A PVC tray can be cut to fit any drawer from 450 to 900 mm wide and lifts out for washing.

Thali / plate basket
A steel wire basket with upright bars that hold thalis and plates on their edge, so air dries them. Usually 8 inches deep and 15 to 24 inches wide. In a tandem box kitchen, a plate organiser insert does the same job.

Cup & saucer basket
A shallow 4-inch basket for cups, mugs, small bowls and glasses. Put it in the top slot of the cabinet next to the counter where you make tea.

Wicker basket
A woven basket on runners for onions, potatoes and garlic. The open weave lets air through, so they don’t sprout or rot as fast as in a closed drawer. Fits 450–600 mm cabinets.
Tall units and corner accessories (items 9–13)
These are the big-ticket items. They also add the most storage per square foot, which is why designers push them in small kitchens.

Pantry unit (tall pull-out)
A tall frame with 4 to 6 baskets that slides out in one go. It holds atta, dal, rice, masala tins and snacks in a 450–600 mm wide tall cabinet. You see everything at once, so nothing gets lost at the back.

Magic corner
The blind corner of an L or U kitchen is the hardest space to reach. A magic corner pulls the shelves out of the corner and towards you as you open the door. One per corner.

Carousel / Le Mans corner
Other ways to use a corner. A carousel is a set of round or D-shaped trays that spin. A Le Mans unit has kidney-shaped trays that swing out. A carousel is cheaper. A magic corner usually stores more in Indian kitchens with heavy steel utensils.

Bottle pull-out (BPO)
A narrow 150–300 mm pull-out right next to the hob for oil, ghee, sauces and masala bottles. It turns a strip too thin for a drawer into the most-used cabinet in the kitchen.

Rolling shutter
A roll-up door on a counter-top cabinet that hides the mixer, toaster and kettle. You don’t need to swing a door open, so it suits tight corners. PVC is the budget option, glass looks more premium.
Sink area accessories (items 14–16)
The sink cabinet has pipes running through it, so normal drawers don’t fit. These three items are made for that space and for the wet zone above it.

Pull-out dustbin
A bin fitted on runners inside the sink cabinet. It comes out when you open the door. Twin-bin models let you keep wet and dry waste apart, which many cities now ask for.

Detergent pull-out
A slim steel rack on runners for dishwash liquid, scrubbers and cleaners, fitted beside the pipes. It stops bottles falling over at the back of the sink cabinet.

Dish rack (GTPT)
GTPT means glass, tumbler, plate and thali. It is a steel drying rack that sits inside the wall cabinet above the sink, so washed utensils drip into the sink, not on the counter.
Doors, hinges and lifts (items 17–20)
Small parts, but you use them dozens of times a day. Cheap hinges are the first thing to sag in a new kitchen.

Soft-close hinges
Also called auto hinges. A shutter up to about 900 mm tall needs 2 hinges, a tall pantry door needs 4 or 5. Choose full, half or no overlay to match how your shutter sits on the cabinet side. 3D hinges are easier for the carpenter to align.

Corner (165°) hinges
Opens a shutter almost flat against the next cabinet. Useful on a corner door, or wherever a pull-out has to come out past the open door.

Gas spring (lift-up stay)
Lets a wall cabinet door swing upwards and stay open while you take things out. Good for the cabinet above the hob or chimney. Pick the force (80N to 150N) by door weight.

Gola / profile handle
An aluminium channel built into the cabinet so the shutters have no handle at all. It gives the “handleless” look you see in showrooms. Plan it before the cabinets are made, it can’t be added later.
Handles, knobs and finishing touches (items 21–25)
These are what people actually see and touch. They cost little next to the pull-outs, but they decide whether the kitchen looks finished.

Cabinet handles
Every shutter and drawer needs a pull, unless you choose a gola profile. Long bar handles suit wide drawers. Count your shutters and drawers, then add one spare. Start with the Iris aluminium handle. It comes in 8 inch and 12 inch lengths, so one style covers small shutters and wide drawers.

Cabinet knobs
Knobs suit small shutters, glass-front crockery units and a classic or vintage-style kitchen. Mixing knobs on wall units with handles on drawers is a common designer trick. Try the Kawachi T-bar knob, a slim bar-style knob that comes in antique, black, steel, brush gold and PVD gold finishes.

Kitchen vent cover
Covers the air vent cut into a cabinet (behind a fridge, oven or chimney duct) or the exhaust hole in the wall, so it looks neat and keeps lizards out. The Cipher vent cover is an 8 x 4 inch stainless steel cover with a brush-gold finish.
Bilal Mansuri / PexelsUnder-cabinet LED profile light
An LED strip inside an aluminium channel, fixed under the wall cabinets at the front edge. It lights the counter where you chop, which a ceiling light can’t do because your head blocks it. You also need one driver (adapter) for the run.
Curtis Adams / PexelsKitchen skirting
The strip that covers the gap between the bottom of the cabinets and the floor. It stops dust, cockroaches and mop water getting under the units. Aluminium or PVC skirting won’t swell when you mop, unlike plain wood.
Accessories for a small kitchen
In a small kitchen, every cabinet has to hold more. Spend on things that pull out fully, so the back of each cabinet is usable.
Max Vakhtbovych / PexelsPrioritise
- Tandem box drawers in place of shelves
- Bottle pull-out in the narrow gap beside the hob
- A slim 300–450 mm pantry pull-out if there is any tall space
- Lift-up wall flaps with gas springs, so open doors don’t block you
- Under-cabinet LED light, because small kitchens are often dark
Skip or delay
- Rolling shutter on the counter (it uses counter depth you need)
- Carousel corner, if a magic corner fits
- Undermount channels (side channels do the same job for less)
- Very deep cup & saucer baskets in every cabinet
Accessories for an L-shaped kitchen
An L-shaped kitchen has one corner, and that corner is where most money goes to waste. Without a corner fitting, about a third of that cabinet is out of reach. Plan a magic corner there first, then fill the two arms: drawers and the bottle pull-out on the hob side, dustbin and detergent pull-out on the sink side. A U-shaped kitchen needs the same plan with two corners. A parallel kitchen has no corners, so the money goes into an extra drawer stack and a pantry unit instead.
Value brands or Hettich and Hafele: where to spend
You don’t need one brand for everything. Spend more on the parts that move every day and take weight, and save on parts that just sit there.
Worth paying more for
- Hinges on doors you open many times a day (see Hettich hinge prices and Hafele hinge prices)
- Drawer runners under heavy pots and dal tins (compare Hafele vs Hettich drawer slides)
- Pantry and magic corner mechanisms, which carry a lot of weight on a single frame
Fine to save on
- Cutlery trays and dish racks
- Wicker and plate baskets
- Skirting and LED profiles

How to measure before you order
- Measure the inside width of each cabinet, side panel to side panel, in mm. Accessories are sold by cabinet width (300, 450, 600, 900 mm and so on).
- Measure the depth from the inside of the back panel to the front edge. Most baskets and tandem boxes need about 450–500 mm.
- Note the panel thickness. Most kitchens use 18 mm boards. Soft-close channels need about 12.5 mm on each side.
- Mark the pipes in the sink cabinet. The dustbin and detergent pull-out have to fit around them.
- Count shutters and drawers for hinges and handles, and add one or two spares.
- Send us the list on WhatsApp before your carpenter cuts the boards. It is much cheaper to change a drawing than a cabinet.
