Telescopic vs Quadro Channel: Which Is Better? (2026 Prices)
Buying guide · Drawer channels · Updated 6 Oct 2026
A telescopic channel fits on the sides of the drawer. A quadro channel hides under it. Both slide out fully, and both come in soft close. The real differences are look and price: at 18 inch, a quadro channel costs ₹999 to ₹1,649 a pair on our store, against ₹650 to ₹980 for a soft-close telescopic. Choose quadro when you want hidden hardware and a clean drawer side. Choose telescopic for value, long or very heavy drawers, and wardrobes.
Telescopic vs quadro channel: what is the difference?
Both are drawer slides, the metal runners that let a drawer glide in and out. When planning drawers for your kitchen, wardrobe or any modular furniture, these are the two you will be offered. The difference is where they sit.

What is a telescopic channel?
A telescopic drawer channel (also called a ball-bearing slide or side-mount channel) is a pair of steel rails in three sections that slide inside each other on ball bearings. One rail screws to the cabinet side and one to the drawer side. It comes in normal close and soft close, in sizes from 8 to 36 inch, and it is the most common drawer slide in Indian homes.
What is a quadro channel?
A quadro drawer channel is a concealed undermount runner. The runners fix to the cabinet sides near the bottom, and the drawer sits on top of them, held by locking clips at the front. “Quadro” is Hettich’s name for its range, but in India the word is used for undermount runners from any brand. Every quadro channel we sell has soft close built in.

| Price, 18 inch pair | ₹340 to ₹480 normal; ₹650 to ₹980 soft close Telescopic | ₹999 to ₹1,649 |
| Drawer build | Any drawer box, narrower by the rail gap Easier | Drawer must be built for undermount runners |
| Taking the drawer out | Release lever on each rail | Front clips; most also allow small adjustments |
A correction to an old myth: quadro is often sold as “stronger”. On our listings it is not. Our quadro channels are rated 30 to 45 kg, the same range as soft-close telescopic channels (35 to 45 kg). Pay for quadro for the look and the feel, not for extra load.

Key feature comparisons
Extension and alignment
Both open fully, so you reach the back of the drawer. A telescopic drawer is aligned by where the carpenter screws the rails. Most quadro channels have front clips that let you lift the drawer out and make small height and side adjustments without unscrewing anything, which keeps a row of drawer fronts in a neat line.
Load capacity and stability
For everyday kitchen drawers, 35 kg is plenty. For the pressure cooker and steel pots drawer, choose 40 to 45 kg: the Safezone soft-close telescopic and the Safezone quadro are both rated 45 kg. For tool, file or storage drawers, our 100 kg heavy-duty telescopic slide is in a class of its own; there is no quadro equivalent.

Soft close
Every quadro channel we sell closes softly. With telescopic channels, soft close is an upgrade, and on our store it costs roughly 70% to twice the price of the normal-close version of the same brand and size.
Size flexibility
Telescopic channels come from 8 to 36 inch, so they fit small organiser drawers as well as deep wardrobe and office drawers. Quadro channels run from 12 to 24 inch, which covers most kitchen base cabinets but not extra-deep units.
Price comparison: quadro channel vs telescopic channel price
Here is what one pair costs at 18 inch, the size most standard kitchen base cabinets take. Prices are from our store as on 6 Oct 2026.
| Brand | Normal telescopic | Soft-close telescopic | Quadro (soft close) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Safezone | ₹340 | ₹650 | ₹999 |
| Ozone | ₹341 | ₹687 | Not stocked |
| Hettich | ₹405 | ₹700 | ₹1,649 |
| Hafele | ₹480 | ₹980 | ₹1,599 |
So, within the same brand, a quadro channel costs about 1.5 times a soft-close telescopic (Safezone, Hafele) and up to 2.4 times (Hettich). Across a kitchen with 8 drawers, that is the difference between about ₹5,200 and ₹8,000 for the Safezone pair, or ₹5,600 and ₹13,200 for Hettich. Want the full price list by size? Quadro channel vs tandem box
People often compare these too, because both hide the runners. The difference: a quadro channel is only the runner, and your carpenter builds the whole drawer box in wood. A tandem box comes with metal drawer sides and its own hidden runners, and the carpenter only cuts the base and back. Our slim tandem boxes start at ₹1,450 per drawer, against ₹999 for a Safezone quadro pair plus the wooden drawer sides. See tandem boxes →
Before you buy: three things to check
- Channel length. Measure the inside depth of the cabinet and choose the nearest size below it. A standard kitchen base cabinet about 560 to 580 mm deep usually takes an 18 inch (450 mm) channel.
- Drawer width. For telescopic channels the drawer box is narrower than the cabinet opening by about 12.5 mm on each side. For quadro, follow the runner’s fitting sheet, because the drawer box is built around the runner.
- Load. Use 40 to 45 kg ratings for pots, pans, thalis and the pressure cooker. Everything else is fine at 35 kg.

Which one wins?
There is no single winner. It depends on the drawer:
- Choose telescopic drawer channels for value, wardrobes, drawers deeper than 24 inch, and very heavy storage. Pick soft close for kitchens; it is worth the extra.
- Choose quadro channels when you want hidden hardware, clean drawer sides and built-in soft close, and the budget allows about 1.5 times the cost.
- Mix them. Many kitchens use quadro on the visible top drawers and soft-close telescopic on the deep lower ones.
FAQs: telescopic vs quadro channel
Which is better, quadro channel or telescopic channel?
Neither is better for every drawer. Quadro hides under the drawer, has soft close built in and gives a cleaner look. Telescopic costs less, comes in more sizes (8 to 36 inch) and has a 100 kg heavy-duty option. For most kitchen drawers, a soft-close telescopic channel is the value choice; quadro is worth it where the look matters.
What is the price difference between a quadro channel and a telescopic channel?
At 18 inch on our store, a soft-close telescopic channel costs ₹650 to ₹980 a pair and a quadro channel costs ₹999 to ₹1,649 a pair, as on 6 Oct 2026. Within the same brand, quadro is about 1.5 to 2.4 times the price.
What is a quadro channel?
A quadro channel is a concealed undermount drawer runner. It fixes under the drawer base, so it cannot be seen from the front or sides, and it comes with soft close. Quadro is originally Hettich’s name, but in India it is used for undermount runners from any brand.
What are the standard sizes for telescopic drawer channels?
Telescopic channels are available from 8 to 36 inch, so they suit small organiser drawers as well as large wardrobe and storage drawers. Quadro channels usually come in 12 to 24 inch.
Do all quadro channels come with soft close?
All the quadro channels we sell, from Safezone, Hafele and Hettich, have soft close built in. You do not pay extra for it.
Are soft-close telescopic channels more expensive than normal ones?
Yes. On our store, the soft-close version costs roughly 70% more to twice the price of the normal-close version of the same brand and size. At 18 inch, for example, Hettich costs ₹405 normal and ₹700 soft close.
Can telescopic channels be used in premium wardrobes or kitchens?
Yes, especially soft-close telescopic channels, which are smooth and quiet. They are visible when the drawer is open and not as concealed as quadro channels, but they cost less and come in longer sizes.
Which drawer channel is better for high-load applications?
For heavy kitchen drawers, choose a 40 to 45 kg rating in either type, such as the Safezone soft-close telescopic or Safezone quadro (both 45 kg). For very heavy storage, a heavy-duty telescopic slide rated up to 100 kg is the right choice; quadro channels do not go that high.
What is the difference between a quadro channel and a tandem box?
A quadro channel is only the runner; the carpenter builds a wooden drawer box on top. A tandem box includes metal drawer sides with hidden runners, and only the base and back are cut from board.
Keep planning your drawers
